October 9th, 2009 - Washington, DC - Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart’s (R-FL) office is accepting applications from young men and women who wish to be nominated to the U.S. Air Force, Merchant Marine, Military and Naval Academies. Applications should be received no later than November 1, 2009.
For candidates to be eligible, they must be U.S. citizens, legal Florida state residents, single and with no children, and be at least 17 years of age but not older than 22 years of age on July 1 of the year of admission. Candidates must also take the SAT or ACT exams (these exams can be taken more than once and the highest scores will be used). Congressman Diaz-Balart bases his selection of nominees on their SAT or ACT scores, grade point average, extracurricular activities, leadership potential and recommendations.
In addition, Congressman Diaz-Balart will be hosting an Open House for high school seniors who reside in Florida’s 21st district and are interested in applying to the military academies. The Open House will take place on Saturday, Oct 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Miami Dade College Hialeah Campus located at 1780 West 49th Street in Hialeah.
Young men and women who fulfill these requirements and seek to be nominated to the U.S. military academies should contact Lucia Bieule at (305) 470-8555 or 8525 N.W. 53rd Terrace, Suite 102, Miami, Florida 33166.
