Diaz-Balart Secures an Additional $55.4 Million to Complete Construction of New SOUTHCOM Headquarters

July 10th, 2009 - Washington, DC - The House of Representatives today passed the Military Construction and Veteran Affairs Appropriations bill, which includes $55.4 million requested by Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL) for completion of the construction of the new United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) headquarters in the 21st Congressional District of Florida. This new funding is in addition to $181.6 million that Congressman Diaz-Balart helped secure in previous years, bringing the total to $237 Million. SOUTHCOM personnel and supporting services have contributed over $1.2 billion and over 20,000 jobs to South Florida’s economy.
“I am pleased to have helped secure $237 million for the construction of the new SOUTHCOM headquarters in our community,” said Congressman Diaz-Balart. “Retaining SOUTHCOM in South Florida is a high priority for me. Today’s action constitutes a decisive step in ensuring SOUTHCOM’s permanent presence in our community,” concluded Diaz-Balart.
